Description
The Ocotillo cactus is one of my favorites. Unfortunately, the drought here has taken its toll on the green spines, but the red flowers are still going strong. The Ocotillo flourishes in the Chihuahuan Desert. The mountainous Chihuahuan Desert area where the Rio Grande makes a dramatic curve near west Texas is called the Big Bend Area. It is the southern tip of the Rockies for the United States and has been in a drought for a long time. However, it is still spectacular to view and the roller coaster Hwy 170 from Lajitas to Presidio is a great way to see it.
