Description
Looking northeast toward the full breadth of Maine and the upper tip of the US, one can see the Bigelow Preserve mountain range in the distance and Rangeley Lake in the foreground. This area is called the "Height of Land" and is considered one of Maine's most scenic spots. From another Overlook just south near where the Appalachian Trail crosses Rte 17 one can see west over Mooselookmeguntic Lake and the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the distance. A little bit of Fall has started but later on this area is covered in reds.
The Rangeley Scenic Overlook is on Rte 17 just south of South Rangeley, Maine. Route 17, from Portland to Rangeley, is a Fall Color driving tour mostly buried in the deep forests of Maine but rises here, on the Height of Land, to provide a panorama of Maine.
