John, I can't imagine where you were to get this photo. In a tree? Wish I had been there to call out, "Don't jump!!!" Beautiful shot! Congratulations on your sale!

Nice! Congrats on your sale

John Prichard replied:

Thanks Chrisann. I grew up in Mesa and then came back to Flagstaff after I returned from the War. Texas has been our home for 35 years but I still have a soft spot for Az.

What an unexpected focal point in this shot! I had to do a double-take! Congratulations on your sale!

John Prichard replied:

Thanks Diane. Looking along the ridges seems like one of the ways to get the depth back. I have others of the Canyon in my Northern Az Gallery.

A visual experience to the utmost, John! I have seen hundred of Grand Canyon photos, but never have I had the great pleasure to set my eyes on this beauty before! It is just astonishing, but have to watch that first step! LOL This is one of the most significant GC shots I have ever had the true pleasure of viewing, and thanks so much for sharing with us. You get the big, "Elvis" F/V on this masterfully captured piece, John!

John Prichard replied:

Thanks Randy. Just finishing up on the Hopi House on the South Rim ... maybe have it up by tonight. I have a few Grand Canyon in my Northern Gallery. The colors are so warm and come forward in the Canyon that it makes it look 2D ... the ones I like I have to de-emphasize parts via blurring, de-sat color, etc so that I get back the depth that I saw when I was standing there.

Artist's Description

When you only visit the Canyon every 10 years, it is not very cooperative. The morning was completely covered in clouds, but then as I was just about to leave, out came the late afternoon sun and burned the clouds away. Thank you Mother Nature. One of my favorites from that visit.

About John Prichard

I try to blend Digital Art with my Photography to achieve Imagery. If you feel what I felt and found interesting in the scene, then I have succeeded. After retiring (engineer for 35 years), I restarted my photography love but with a new twist. I took some art classes (not photography) and I realized that we each see/record-in-brain scenes differently ... not as an image but rather as a composite of shape recognition, filtering and feelings ... muting things we are not interested in, emphasizing things we are interested in, like color, streams, meadows, etc. The painter gets to paint what he views important from the scene but the photographer is stuck with everything. Now, with digital photography and processing, I can get closer to...
